Women are the backbone of a family and of the society at large. In the COVID 19 pandemic, we all have seen a rise in mental health burden-and Women, being more sensitive are more mentally and emotionally vulnerable.It is mainly because of

  • Continued health concerns
  • Breakdown of support systems due to long-term isolation
  • Economic fallout
  • Rise in abuse – twofold rise in gender-based violence

How to manage stress and its consequences?

  • Identify signs of stress and get in touch with your doctor if you notice
    • Too much Fear and worry about your & family’s health 
    • Changes in your sleep or eating patterns
    • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
    • Worsening of chronic health problems
    • Worsening of mental health conditions
    • Increased use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs
  • Take care of yourself -you could do this by coping with the stress
    • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
  • Take care of your body.
    • Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate
    • Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
    • Exercise regularly, 
    • Get plenty of sleep
    • Avoid alcohol and drugs
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy, like a hobby, a good book, a fun board game, a new recipe, a new craft to learn.
  • Connect with others. Emotions are contagious, so be wise about who you turn to for support.
  • Be kind to yourself-don’t have very high expectations from yourself, take it easy.
  • Maintain a routine as best you can. Try to stick to your regular sleep, school, meal, or work schedule. 
  • Get out in nature-sunshine and fresh air will do you good. 
  • Avoid self-medicating. 
  • Focus on the things you can control
    • Washing your hands frequently (for at least 20 seconds) with soap and water or a hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol.
    • Avoiding touching your face 
    • Staying home as much as possible, even if you don’t feel sick.
    • avoiding crowds and gatherings of 10 or more people.
    • avoiding all non-essential shopping and travel.
    • keeping 6 feet of distance between yourself and others when out.
    • getting plenty of sleep, which helps support your immune system.
  • Help others (it’ll make you feel better and help you in return)
  • Follow guidelines for preventing the spread of the virus
  • Reach out to others in need- isolated,the elderly or disabled
  • Donate to food banks-older adults, low-income families, and others in need by donating food or cash.
  • Be a calming influence. 
  • Be kind to others.
